Learning to Trust God One Step at a Time

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, "Well, this certainly isn't how I pictured things turning out"?

I have!

Sometimes we have this beautiful picture in our minds of how life is supposed to unfold.

We make plans.

We set goals.

We imagine what the future will look like.

And then life happens.

A door closes.

Our circumstances change.

An unexpected challenge comes along.

And suddenly we're standing somewhere we never imagined we'd be.

I know what that's like.

For much of my life, I believed I needed to keep everything moving.

I was the one who would step in, help, organize, fix, and do whatever needed to be done.

But over time, I began to realize something.

Just because I could carry something didn't mean I was meant to.

And just because my life wasn't unfolding the way I had planned didn't mean God had stopped working in it.

What If the Unexpected Isn't the End of the Story?

Sometimes we become so focused on what life used to look like, or what we thought it should look like, that we struggle to see what God may be doing right now.

I know I've done that.

I've looked at changes in my life and wondered what they meant for my future.

I've had to learn that my worth isn't found in how much I accomplish, how many people I help, or how much I can get done in a day.

My identity is found in Christ.

And that doesn't change when my circumstances do.

John 15:5 reminds us that Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.

For years, I was so busy trying to hold everything together that I didn't fully understand what it meant to abide in Him.

Not strive.

Not control.

Not carry the weight of everything and everyone.

Just abide.

And I'm still learning.

Recognizing the Little Things

Something beautiful happens when we stop measuring our lives only by what we've accomplished.

We begin noticing things we might have overlooked before.

A meaningful conversation.

A friendship that brings encouragement.

An opportunity we never expected.

A kind word from someone who needed to hear our story.

Recently, I've been reminded of how meaningful it is when someone shares that something I've written or spoken has encouraged her.

It's not about numbers or recognition.

It's knowing that a personal experience, something God has been teaching me, might help another person feel less alone.

And that touches my heart.

Sometimes what seems small to us can mean so much to someone else.'

There's Beauty in the Rawness, Too

I've often said, "There's beauty in the unfolding."

But I also believe there's beauty in the rawness.

Not because everything painful is beautiful.

Not because every circumstance has a happy ending.

But because God's love can meet us in the middle of our unfinished stories.

We don't have to wait until everything is perfect before get to experience His goodness.

We don't need all the answers before we can take another step.

And we don't need to know exactly where the road is leading before we can trust the One walking with us.

Sometimes the most meaningful growth happens quietly, where no one else can see it.

A heart learning to trust.

A burden, finally being released.

A person discovering that she is loved for who she is, not for what she can do.

And sometimes, a new beginning, growing out of a season we never would have chosen.

Your Story Is Still Unfolding

Friend, maybe your life looks very different from what you imagined.

Maybe you're in a season of change, wondering what comes next.

Or perhaps you're beginning to recognize that God is inviting you into something new.

You don't have to figure out the entire journey today.

You don't have to rush ahead.

And you certainly don't have to compare your journey with anyone else's.

God isn't asking you to live someone else's story.

He's inviting you to walk with Him through your own.

So take that sacred pause.

Notice what He's teaching you today.

Thank Him for the little blessings.

Trust Him with what you cannot see.

And remember, just because the story isn't unfolding the way you expected doesn't mean the story is finished.

There's still room for growth, joy, love, and hope.

There's beauty in the unfolding.

A Moment to Ponder

Are you holding tightly to the way you thought your life was supposed to look?

What might God be teaching you in this season?

Can you give yourself, permission to appreciate where you are today, even if you haven't reached where you thought you'd be?

A Prayer From My Heart

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for loving us through every season of life.

Lord, sometimes the path before us looks nothing like the one we imagined.

We don't always understand the changes, the delays, or the unexpected turns.

Help us release the expectations we've placed on ourselves and learn to trust You more deeply.

Remind us that our identity is found in You, not in what we accomplish.

Open our eyes to the beauty in everyday moments, the blessings we might overlook, and the ways You are working in our hearts.

Teach us to stop striving and start abiding.

And as our stories continue to unfold, help us walk forward with faith, gratitude, and hope.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

From my heart to yours,Sonia 💜
